Our home is a charming Victorian 2 bedroom / 3 bath house in downtown Santa Barbara. This recently remodeled home has one large bedroom upstairs with nice views and a balcony, a bathroom and an open office area. The upstairs bedroom has a queen bed on one side and a double/full on the other. The room has a heavy curtain divider that can be drawn to effectively make 2 bedrooms and each side has its own entrance door. A twin foam mattress, queen air bed and fold-up cot are also available to accommodate more guests. Great for families and larger groups. Downstairs is an open layout living/dining/kitchen with bath, the master bedroom with full Jacuzzi tub bath and the parlor / front room with a queen-sized pull-out sofa bed. The parlor can be closed off from the rest of the downstairs living area to serve as an additional bedroom, in which case other guests are welcome to come and go around the right side of the house, through the gate and backyard to the back patio where they can use the back door or enter the kitchen directly instead of using the front door and having to go through the parlor.. The living room sofa, though not a sleeper, is also quite comfortable for one person to sleep on. Hundred year old hardwood floors, beamed ceilings and bay windows, remodeled kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. Fully furnished, wireless internet, cable TV and utilities included. Use of boogie and surfboards also included. We share the lovely enclosed backyard with pond, lawn, flagstone patio and barbecue. The patio area just outside the kitchen and our mosaic corner bench under the avocado tree are primarily for your use, while the lower patio area around the corner under the grapevine arbor is primarily for our use or other guests who may be staying in our house. Pets could be OK -- please ask. Pet fee would be $25/night/pet.

If you run out of eggs or need more cream for your coffee the neighborhood market is just across the street. There are two beautiful parks, one with the fantastic "Kid's World" playground, within 5 blocks.

We are also walking distance to both the Mesa Steps Beach and Hendry's (Arroyo Burro) Beach. The guesthouse is immaculately clean, airy and spacious. Your bedroom features a comfy king size bed, with 10 foot ceilings, large windows, ceramic tile floors, a full size desk, and a coat rack. Your own private kitchen and two sink full bath boast more of the same. The guesthouse has its own private entrance and is attached to the main house through the kitchen door. The door will be locked during your stay so that you will have full privacy in your suite. See layout photo for more detail. You will have your own private kitchen which is perfect for light/basic cooking -there is no hood so if you plan to fry/saute we invite you to use the main kitchen -- with a small fridge, 4 burner stove, microwave, electric kettle, toaster, and french press. The kitchen/hall area has a small table with two stools that can be folded up for extra space if needed. The Douglas Family Preserve is just around the corner of the block and a great place for walks, with an amazing view of the ocean off the bluffs - breathtaking at sunset. In the right seasons you can catch Humpback, Blue, or Grey Whales cruising past; dolphins and seals are pretty common sights year round, as are hang-gliders and parasailers. Walk to two gorgeous beaches - Mesa Steps (10 min) and Hendry's Beach (20 min) or stroll to gourmet food stores and restaurants. It is a 10-15 minute drive to reach Downtown Santa Barbara. The Mesa Steps Beach is 6 blocks from the house, a series of 200+ stairs lead from the top of the mesa down to the beach. This is a very local neighborhood access point so you can enjoy the beach free of the typical tourist crowds. You can easily walk from Mesa Steps to Hendry's (about a mile) along the shore to reach the Boathouse restaurant to enjoy dinner and drinks while watching the waves break. A strange and wonderful juxtapostion of moods! The space is creekside under giant sycamores, native oaks. Outside mirrored walls give the illusion of being invisible as it reflects the surrounding woods and grove The glass house has a very luxurious, organic feeling.. brilliantly bringing the inside and outside worlds together in beautiful harmony. Birds chirping and the sweet sounds of wind through the trees, hang in the hammock with air feel divine, sun supreme. Off the cottage is a beautiful red wood deck perfect for yoga or hanging out. This 3 acre grove area is part of a larger 11 acre land though is like it's very own property, gated in and exclusive to the 4 guests residing in the grove. The meadow consists of two incredible cottages situated about 150 feet apart (both separate offerings) which face opposite directions for the most privacy possible while maintaining their own unique views. I designed this so visitors could have their own "house", but also have some potential for awesome community overlap at the outside kitchen/ lounge area. The redwood bath house is also a shared beauty between the two cottages. You can think of this unique realm as an amazing nature connection resort exclusively for 4 people. Pretty epic! There is also the beautiful common space of the pool/ hot tub area (acres up) on another portion of my property. There's another page devoted to the "fantastical cottage" which is a super whimsical, airy, soulful cottage looking out to the epic Santa Barbara mountain range through a collage of vintage windows and an awesome partially enclosed deck. A truly amazing space.. very different than the glass house but equally wonderful in it's own unique way. Besides the private cottages, the grove consists of a colorful covered outside kitchen/ hang out zone and an extra spacious redwood outside shower and bath house. All spaced about 100-200 feet apart. And of course the house of the hens who lay fresh organic eggs for your breakfast! Not to mention the grand trampaline! and pool/ hot tub access accessible on the other side of the land. Now, those are the man made things. The "hallway" is the land itself.. which is something I really can't capture visually here. There's a quality of this place that profoundly nurtures the senses.. smell, site, sound... reorganizing your central nervous system in all the ways we so desperately need in this modern world! One of the incredible things about this property is that it's a mere 2 miles to shopping malls, Whole Foods and restaurants (5 minutes) and 10 minutes to downtown Santa Barbara, wine tasting rooms, hip funk zone, shopping... 5 minutes to trailhead that lead out to the ocean, 10 minutes right to the beach. We're also just 30 minutes from Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Solvang (wine country). The land is unique because it feels like you're very remote and off the grid out in nature (which you are) but then it's just minutes to get anywhere in Santa Barbara. Very find rare to find such a spot with so much surrounding private serene land! The setting is ideal for 2-4 adults (4 if you're taking both cottages and 2 if you're occupying just one) or one solo soul looking to retreat. I also love to welcome pets, but do let me know so we can chat doggy ground rules! It's $30 extra cash all together for the furry friends + $20 after the 1st. This has been such a passion of mine, sharing my land ... letting nature be of benefit to people who are making their beautiful memories here. My private property is a very large land, 11 acres, which is surrounded by other large private properties and national forest. We are outside neighborhood zones, a half mile off a private road, so it feels very much off the grid. Amazingly we are a mere 5 minutes from uptown shops in Santa Barbara, 10 minutes to dog friendly leashless beaches, airport and train station, 30 minutes to Santa Ynez wine country and 10-12 minutes anywhere in the heart of Santa Barbara shops, restaurants and entertainment. Truly best of ALL worlds!

In a gorgeous natural setting, the rather rustic hillside house is spread out and guests have access to everything.....high speed internet, hot tub (temporarily not operating because of drought) decks with views of the mountains, etc. The property has about 2 acres of tall trees, lush vegetation, and amazing wildlife. Although there's a feeling of isolation, it only takes minutes to drive to town, and is a serene refuge from crowds and traffic. [It's best if you have a car. The nearest bus is about a mile away on a hill] However, quite a few like the walk to town which is about 1/2 hour, and usually take Uber back home. You'll find quiet, privacy, and peaceful living in this beautiful mountain view share. Nestled in trees, with lots of garden and open space. Good modest room with very basic furnishings, and amenities of house, but bear in mind this is an old house and there are imperfections.The bathroom will probably be shared as I have two available rooms (see Natural Wonders/Privacy and Peace) It's not really possible to reserve one room or the other. This is a separate guest house on a woodsy large one acre lot with a creek running thru it. It is quiet at night with kids playing in the yard during the day. It’s a bit of a homestead with some egg laying chickens and veggie gardens.

I offer what I enjoy when traveling: an affordable, low key place to sleep well that encourages me to spend money on a good meal and spending the most time out in the city seeing the local beauty. I prefer guests who are independent and can self check-in. I don't drink so I request responsible alcohol use.

PLEASE NOTE: October through April, ANYONE is welcome! May through September I only host couples and singles in this room, no friends/siblings/parent with child. A 'couple' doesn't require being married or heterosexual! The 'Earth Room' is a larger bedroom with private entrance in walking distance to downtown. One of three guest rooms on property, more like a hostel than a homestay with a host. Room is located just off patio on residential street, relatively quiet. You will share a wall with another guest room and so please both are requested to be sensitive with noise levels. Guest-only shared bathroom is directly across patio, 10 feet outside the room. Barn-wood walls and natural fibers make it seem like Scandinavia - a sauna, someone pointed out. Comfortable bed, many artistic touches. I have been a host for 7 years and all is dedicated to guests here, so that it's much more of a true Bed and Breakfast (without breakfast, though!) than staying in someone's private home. You get your own entrance with key and the bathroom, while shared with two other guest rooms, is not used by my family at all. The property has a lot of collected artistic touches and both Santa Barbara and my quiet life as a writer make it very serene and restful, I have been told. There are four sweet dogs living here part-time - so you might interact with them! Beautiful and well behaved and maybe welcomed if you miss your own pets or have been on the road a while. I love guests, with the only expectation that because I am sober that you not bring the energy of partying here. Please plan to eat outside on the patio (there's a table right outside your door) or away from the home completely - we have so many affordable restaurants here. You are a mile from the center of downtown Santa Barbara here. I am a block away from an excellent coffee shop that has good pastries and fresh juice and breakfast burritos, so you can eat without driving if you like. There is also a city-famous homemade ice cream shop that is open until 11 or midnight every day in that same area. It's quiet and residential here, but I have other bed and breakfast businesses on two sides of me, so the block has a bit of traveler buzz rather than just being families or apartments. My home is from 1918 and quaint, like most in my area.

East Beach is a small neighbourhood, centrally located in the desirable city of Santa Barbara with it's beautiful long, sandy beaches and the backdrop of the foothills leading in the the Santa Ynez Valley. From our place, you can get to the beach in 5 minutes or less, where you will find the popular beach volleyball courts, the locally famous East Beach Grill, and lovely boardwalk and bike bath as a way to see the waterfront. Not far is Stearn's Warf, State Street and the newly developed Funk Zone - great shopping, eating, and wine tasting attractions of Santa Barbara. The Santa Barabra Zoological Gardens is just a 10 minute walk from our doorstep, a fantastic little zoo with a great collection of animals big and small. We have Tri County produce around the corner - a great neighbourhood market - as well as Trader Joe's at less than a half a mile away. All that you need is just a short walk away.

In other words, please do not book for a family member or a friend if you personally will not be staying here as well. We provide a room with queen size bed and access to all amenities provided, including wireless internet and smart TV. Please note the following schedule: JUNE through AUGUST CHECK-IN is 4PM and CHECK-OUT is 10AM Our bathroom is a shared “Jack and Jill” located between the 2 adjoining bedrooms. When the bathroom is in use, we lock the opposite door and switch the fan on. This notifies that the bathroom is occupied, and is also for your privacy. When finished, we unlock the door and turn the fan off. We are centrally located: 2 miles from the ocean (5 minutes by car), 1.8 miles from our historic mission, 1 mile from downtown and the courthouse, and 2 miles from the beach (3.2 km). It maybe possible, although not definite, to stay an extra day. Please ask. WATER CONSERVATION: This part of Central California is still in the midst of a moderate drought. Please limit you showers to 10 minutes. To mitigate water loss, we have placed a bucket underneath the tap (faucet) in the bathtub to collect and recycle water that would otherwise be wasted down the drain. It takes about 30 seconds for the shower to warm up to a suitable temperature, so the bucket catches the cold water until you enter the shower. We use this water to water our plants. We understand that many people are not accustomed to this practice that has taken Californians the past several years to adapt to, so please try your best to observe this request. We have had a couple of guests who, after having been made aware of this situation, ignored our request and took 45 minute showers. We are very accommodating, but this is something we will not tolerate. PARKING: PLEASE BE AWARE: Every Wednesday street-sweepers clean our side of the road. During this time, please park by our garage or along the opposite side of the road. Also for our European guests please park in the same direction of the other parked cars: nose to tail. You have a designated parking space down the driveway (shared with our neighbor) in front of the green garage, to the right. Please refrain from eating in the bedroom. Feel free to use the dining area, or the dining table outside in the patio area. California is prone to ants. Do not leave food uncovered if not being consumed immediately. You can store it in the fridge. AMENITIES: Washer and Dryer: - Available for guests staying 2 NIGHTS OR LONGER -Not available after 6:00PM. Residential neighborhood, quiet and safe

This is a cozy garden studio 10 -15 minutes walk to the beach and 10 minutes drive to Santa Barbara. The studio has a kitchenette, bathroom, comfy queen bed, and french doors opening up to a private sunny sitting area. It has a parking area and a pathway to the entrance. There are endless paths for walking or riding bikes on the More Mesa preserve. The community beach access gate is a short walk through the quiet and lush More Mesa neighborhood.

This studio is situated on a property attached but separate from a main house in a beach community near a nature preserve called More Mesa. The studio has its own private entrance on the side of the property. It has a kitchenette with sink, fridge, stove, water pot, coffee maker, microwave, coffee, tea, granola, and cooking and eating utensils. The queen bed is very comfortable and faces the french doors opening out into the garden and sitting area. It's a lovely, sunny morning spot and in the evening you can see the sun set over the mountains. The studio fits two comfortably, but with special requests we can at times put a cot in the room for a child.

We love that our neighborhood is quiet and so close to the beach and nature. You can walk to the beach through the lovely neighborhood from our house in 8 minutes. Or you can enter the beautiful More Mesa preserve and walk the circumference along the trails to the cliffs above the ocean and then away from the beach on hilly forested areas, and back. We also like to run the cliff path to the end where the Eucalyptus grove is, go down the stairs to the beach, jump in the water, and run back. It takes about an hour. We are also walking distance to the Beachside Bar Cafe which is a fun place for Happy Hour or morning brunch at 11:00. Enter the beach at the beach gate, walk on the beach, West, for about 25 minutes at mid to low tide, you'll reach the pier and the cafe. If it's high tide or if the storms have taken all the sand, you can Uber back Santa Barbara is a short drive away. We have a lot of brochures and ideas for activities in a basket in the cottage for you to research. Island kayaking, wine tasting, hiking, surfing, beach walking, shopping, there is seriously alot to do around here.
