Hi, I'm Jack -

This listing is called the "fun North Shore" because this is in a gentrified neighborhood with so much to do and is walking distance to downtown Pittsburgh just over the Allegheny River.

At home here, you will have a private room, private kitchenette, and private bathroom in a 22 room Victorian townhouse built in 1870. This is a Federal Historic District called Allegheny West. This home is a 15 minute walk into downtown Pittsburgh, to the sports Stadiums, Mattress Factory Art Museum, Mexican War Streets, and the River Heritage Trail that connects with the Great Allegheny Passage to Washington D.C..

The Allegheny Commons Park with Lake Elizabeth and the National Aviary is across the street near where Gus makes ice balls from his brightly painted cart. In this valley our Springs, Autumns and Winters are warmer and very beautiful. Allegheny West is a nice little neighborhood of tree-lined streets, restored historic homes, restaurants, parks and museums.

Within minutes walk are: Allegheny General Hospital, the Mattress Factory Museum, The Andy Warhol Museum, the Children's Museum, the Carnegie Science Center, Heinz Field, PNC (Pirates) Park, Carnegie Library, the Community College of Allegheny County, St. Peter's Cathedral Church, Calvary United Methodist with Tiffany windows, Banjo Club Wednesday at the Elks, the National Aviary with its Penguins and Eagles, nice inexpensive neighborhood restaurants/cafes : Peppi's, Lindo's, Monterrey Cafe Irish Pub, Carmi, The Modern, Nikky's Thai Kitchen, Allegheny Sandwich Shoppe, Georgio's, Subway. This is a fun place to live for a few days or a month! The second weekend in each December is the fantastic Victorian Christmas Candlelight House Tour.

Within a few more minutes of driving are: University of Pittsburgh, the Convention Center, the big hotels, the Carnegie Museums, Mount Washington, the Pittsburgh Penguins' Consol Center, West End Overlook, Heinz Hall, The Benedum, Market Square, Carnegie Mellon University, Frick Fine Arts Center, Phipps Conservatory, Soldiers and Sailor's Memorial Hall, the Strip District, the great US Steel Building and PPG Place.

From this neighborhood is immediate access to the main Interstates East, West, South and North. The subway station with free rides to downtown is nearby. Walking downtown takes 15 minutes. From the airport the drive is about 20 minutes to the front door! Lyft and Uber are popular taxi services. Parking here is easy in front of the house and with a special Parking Permit just around the corner. Mountain skiing, snowboarding or just watching others do it while lounging before a cozy fire is just an hour away at Hidden Valley or Seven Springs on Laurel Mountain.

When here at home, enjoy the roof decks with their views of the hills, daytime or night City skyline, and Victorian rooftops - watching sunsets or the weekly fireworks, for yoga at dawn, or tanning times. Detergents are provided in the laundry. You will also be able to view satellite TV in the living room...or use the weight room, sit on the front stoop and talk to the neighbors. WiFi works throughout the house. This is a home in a restored City neighborhood.

Your second floor room has a refrigerator, microwave, kitchenette, private bathroom with soaking tub, snacks, teas and coffee, dishes and silverware, WiFi access, four large bright windows with views of gardens and the Concolor fir. There's an air conditioner in Summer and personal electric heat in Winter. Also in the room is a real full size comfy bed.

The first motorcycle policeman in Pittsburgh owned this house; he parked the cycle in the little courtyard under your window. In the basement was his shooting range and the bulls eye targets are still there along with the ricocheted lead pieces embedded in the rafters. He was also a sign painter and painted the Clark Bar signs for the Clark Candy Company; Mr. and Mrs. Clark lived around the corner. Dan Rooney, owner of the Steelers, now lives around the corner. During Prohibition it is said the house had a moonshine still operating in the attic; the hootch was served in a basement Speakeasy next door.

You won't see me much but we will run in to each other enjoying the roof deck or visiting in the living room. Two bicycles live here; you may use in the Commons Park or the River Heritage Trail. If you come during Christmastide, from Thanksgiving to Candlemas, there will be a white welcome candle in each window. This is a real home and not a hotel, on Pittsburgh's fun north shore!
