This light filled, ground floor suite has beautiful views from the bay window overlooking the garden and directly out to Mount Wellington, often snow-covered in winter. The antique furniture includes a beautiful Sheraton Revival wardrobe with ample hanging space, big drawers and deep shelves, and its original matching dressing table. Under the bay window you can sit and work at the generous antique table, or relax in a comfortable arm chair with a book from our own collection of old volumes.

Basil Crisp’s Elegant Heritage Suite in Glebe is a 1-bed, 1-bath retreat with a luxurious King Bed, rich in history and charm. Named after Alfred Basil Crisp, champion cyclist of the 1895 Austral Wheel Race and later a pioneering Hobart lawyer, this suite celebrates his legacy. Samuel Crisp’s Room | Heritage Charm in Glebe

Samuel Crisp started life as a sawyer in rural Suffolk, England. His story almost makes one wonder if transportation shouldn’t be reintroduced as a beneficial alternative to present day incarceration. The furniture is antique, much of it of local origin. The tall Gothic wardrobe is of native cedar and dates from about 1860. On the mantel shelf stands a quaint antique weather vane with a windmill that activates a pit saw just like the one Samuel operated as a young man.

Hettie Crisp’s Beautiful Heritage Retreat Glebe

Named in honour of Hettie Crisp, Basil’s elder daughter and Julian’s grandmother, who in the 1960s left city life to run a dairy farm south of Kingston. During the devastating 1967 Tasmanian bushfires, she courageously stood with a hosepipe, drenching the house, gardens, and cattle sheds as flames roared around her. Her bravery and grace inspire this elegant heritage room, a serene Glebe retreat filled with warmth, history, and timeless charm.
