Alfama Terrace on Tejo

« Terrace on Tejo » is a charming 55m2 (600ft2) apartment with two rooms and a 15m2 (160ft2) terrace with a panoramic view on the Tejo River. Very luminous and quiet, the flat is located in the very traditionnal and central Alfama neighbourhood at 50 meters from the Museum of Fado. It's very well located in the rua Jardim do Tabacco, at 5 minutes by feet from Santa Apollonia railway and subway station, 10 minutes from Praça do Commercio, 10 minutes from Sé Cathedral and the famous line 28 old streetcar. Our flat is situated on the 4th floor (WITHOUT ELEVATOR!) in a traditionnal portuguese building with blue azulejos on the facade. Our balcony looks to the south and there is sun all day long. No counterpart, you feel like diving on the river ! We hope you will enjoy taking breakfast on the balcony, watching sailing boats and ferry boats come and go... We planted some trees, herbs and flowers and are waiting for them to grow and cover the walls: don't forget to water them in the evening! Renovated a few months ago, you will find a large cosy living room with an american bar kitchen style in tadelakt and azulejos. Parquet, big round table for sunny breakfasts, piano, sofa, bookcases with a large choice of books and guides about Lisboa : don’t hesitate to use them ! Bedrooms are very cosy and both have a terrific view on the river by large windows. The "pink" room has a high-quality double bed and storages for clothes. The "golden" room has a convertible which you can choose for one or two persons (becomes a double bed) and a dressing. You will also have a bed for babies, 1.20m. Our flat can easily suit for four hosts but it will be ideal to welcome three persons or a couple with one or two children. The bathroom has a large shower and water closet. Little extra: as the shower was built on the balcony, you will have a perfect view on the river while taking your shower ! A very romantic pleasure... The flat’s équipement : Stereo (you can plug your telephone with the mini-jack), TV (only for DVDs, no Tv channels) and DVD player, serveral DVDs, a dishwasher, a washing - machine, induction plate with an extractor hood, a hoover, a fridge with a freezer, a toaster, a kettle, a coffee machine, a hairdryer, an iron, a vaccum cleaner, oil-filled radiators (heaters) and air conditioning. Sheets and towels are also included. BBQ on the balcony. Outside furniture: marble table, chairs and two deck chairs to rest quietly. Wifi internet connection. In one of the comments you may have read about the sound of a night club, it is not open anymore and we are quite releaved about this great news! Our apartement is now always peaceful! Transport When you will arrive by airport you have 3 différents options : You can take a cab that will bring you home in approximately 15 minutes for around 10€ (+ 1,50€ per luggage). Take the taxi at the Départure level (not the arrivals) it's on the 1st floor, it will be cheaper! Ask them to go by the Tejo it's faster. Taxis can bring you at the door of our building. The taxi is the easiest way to come. You can also take the red line of the subway to Sao Sebastiao and then change to the blue line until Santa Apolonia, the terminus. It will take almost an hour and cost 1,25€ by person. And finally you can also take the Aero-bus: it leaves every 20 minutes from 7.45 am to 10.30 pm. Price: 3,50€. Keep the ticket, you can use it during the whole day until 2 a.m! The bus goes from the north to the south of the city in 30 minutes. To go to our apartment get off at Praça do Commercio and then you can walk (around 7 minutes) or take the bus n°728 and stop at Casa Conde. By car: One of the great advantage of our flat is that it's located in the heart of alfama and you can easily park just in front of our building in our street where cars are allowed! District Alfama is the oldest district of Lisboa, the only one who survived from the terrible earthquake of 1755. It kept its very pecular ambiance of village with its narrow streets, its hundred of stairs, its Dead end Streets and « becos ». A lot of mistery here. We hope you will like to loose yourself here by wandering around. Two very nice white churches around : Sao Miguel and San Estevao. You will reside on the heart of Fado's district in a remarkable environment while staying at the proximity of the most importants touristic places of the capital. You will be at few minutes by feet from Praça do Commercio (the most central place of Lisboa where you will find the tourist office) and the Baixa district. A very good place for shopping, you will find there international brands as traditionnal portuguese clothes and decoration shop. There is a bike rental shop at 500 meters from our flat which also rents electric bikes, very useful with all the straight hills of Lisboa. By crossing the Alfama district you will find the line 28 streetcar (that you can see on every postcards of Lisboa !) that will bring you in few minutes in the other districts of Lisboa : Baixa, Bairro Alto, Santa Catarina, Sao Bento, Estrella and finally Campo de Ourique. Bus 735, 781, 782, 728 goes from Santa Apollonia to Cais do Sodre. From this railway station, you have got trains going to Belem, Sintra, Cascais and its beaches : carcovelos or praia do guincho for example. 728 bus goes directly to Belem! Shops, Restaurants & bars You will find the local supermarket « Pingo Doce » at Santa Apolonia for the everyday stuff open from 8 AM to 9 PM. The biggest flee market of the city « Feira da Ladra »stands two times a week, on Tuesday and Saturday, at Sao Vicente da Fora, just behind the Pentiao, at 10mn away by walk. For a gastronomic experience there is a delicatessen, a pastry and a very good bakery on the Largo do Chafariz de Dentro, the lovely square at 50 meters from home just in front of the Museum do Fado. There are few traditionnal portuguese restaurants there that put tables outside : a perfect place for a typical lunch in the sun. Our favorite restaurant : the one at the top right corner: excellent & very cheap grilled fish ! By night, you are in the heart of the district of the best fado clubs. A very good one is at the bottom of our building, in Beco do Melo : Guitarras of Lisboa. But we think the best is in Rua dos Remedios : Mesa de Frades. Don’t forget to book your table ! Later you could have a drink outside at Ginjinha da Sé (very nice owners here), Pois Café or Ondajazz. For the nightclubber, we are also very closed to the mythic nightclub of Lisboa : the Lux Factory !

The comfy private bedroom is a perfect fit for couples, while the stunning attic offers a fantastic retreat to enjoy some quality time over a glass of wine or beer or just relaxing after a long day of making the most of the city outside. A fully equipped kitchen (oven, stove, microwave, espresso machine, water kettle, toaster, washing machine, dishwasher, you name it…) is at your disposal, as well as a spacious bathtub bathroom with guaranteed trouble-free water pressure. Apart from all of this the flat is also equipped with a fast WIFI connection and Smart TV (100+ channels), so just grab a seat at the huge sofa and watch a movie / tv series logging in the TV to your preferred account. And last but not least, are you concerned about the weather outside, and whether the flat will be too hot or too cold? No worries, we’ve got top quality super silent air conditioning (hot and cold) to make sure you always feel comfy, regardless of whether it’s Summer or Winter. Did we also mention the perfect location of our NEST? Indeed it is, as you will find our NEST right next to the Lisbon Cathedral (Sé) and historical 28 electric tram stop. Within just a few minutes walking distance you will reach Praça do Comércio, Rua Augusta, Elevador Sta Justa (all within 5 min), and also Chiado, Rossio, Av. Liberdade, S. Jorge Castle, Alfama and Graça neighbourhoods (all between 10 to 15 min), and so many other city attractions... Does all of this sound interesting??? Come and check it out!!! Our NEST is located in an 18th century building so typical of Lisbon's downtown area. As such, there's no lift / elevator, which means you will need to take the stairs (it's a 4th floor). In any case, think on the positive side: this is just a small flavour to get you used to the 7 Hills City :) (probably you've already heard that this is one of the so many names Lisbon is known by...). And we guarantee the views from upstairs will be totally worth it!!! Our Guests comfort and well being is our top priority, so we'll always be in touch to make sure we respond asap to any request or doubt. The flat sits in Baixa neighbourhood on a quiet street, close to great coffee shops and restaurants, close to the Lisbon Cathedral. Explore Alfama, the Castle, Baixa, Chiado, and the 28 electric tram goes right past the door. If you're coming by plane to the Lisbon Airport (relatively close to the city centre), there are pretty much 3 options: (1) Taking a taxi / Uber: A good option is taking a Uber/Cabify (cheaper than the typical taxis). Please consider that Uber/Cabify drivers usually pick customers up at the Departure Parking lot - takes roughly 20/25 minutes to arrive to the flat (of course, dependent on traffic). (2) Via private transfer (similar to a taxi - journey will cost about 30€): This is the most comfortable option, and if you'd like, we can also help out arranging a private transfer with one of our partners directly from the airport to the Nest - the driver would be waiting for you at the Arrivals area with a board with your name. (3) Alternative option is to take public transports: - By Bus only (whole journey will take roughly 40/45 min): take bus "708" from stop "Praça do Aeroporto" to "Rua da Palma" (13 stops - about 20 min), and from there you can walk about 12 min (800 metres) until reaching the flat - bear in mind it's walking upwards from Rua da Palma. - By Subway/Tube & Bus (whole journey will take roughly 45/50 min): take the tube from stop "Aeroporto" to "Alameda" (Red Line only), and right outside the tube station there will be a bus stop where you can take bus "735" until stop "Sapadores" (6 stops - about 14 min), and from there you can walk about 7 min (650 metres) until reaching the flat - street level is horizontal all the way, so easier to carry your luggage. If you're traveling by car and you need a parking space, we recommend probably using one of the nearby underground parking lots, as the streets are quite busy and it can be a bit difficult to park near the flat. If you do find it difficult, some options to park your car are the following places: - "Parque do Mercado Chão de Loureiro", about 0,4 km / 5 minutes walking to the flat (it will cost you around 20€ / 24h). - "Parque de Estacionamento Praça do Município", about 0,5 km / 7 minutes walking to the flat (it will cost you around 32€ / 24h). - "Parque de Estacionamento Praça Figueira", about 0,7 km / 9 minutes walking to the flat (it will cost you around 35€ / 24h). Apart from some exceptional situations, we're pretty sure we'll be there face to face to welcome you get on with the check in procedures. Nonetheless, our NEST is prepared for self check-in (we've got door codes for the building and the flat) for those rare situations when we will not be able to welcome you face to face. And we're always super flexible when it comes to early check-ins or late check-outs (free of charge), as long as the NEST isn't occupied by someone else.

Be careful, you may fall in love with it too! About the house: it's a BEAUTIFUL 60 sqm apartment in the 2nd floor of a 2 floor building. The apartment was fully renovated in June 2017 (BRAND NEW). It's modern, comfortable and cosy, and will allow you to enjoy Lisbon's mythic light! It's ideal for a couple. Spacious living room equipped with 32'' smart TV and comfortable separate bedroom with 160cm wide double bed. Air conditioning in both living room and bedroom and high speed Wi-Fi. Linen and towels are provided. Kitchen is well equipped with nespresso machine, toaster, electric jug, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, etc. Basics to cook like olive oil, vinegar, salt and sugar are also available. There is an iron and ironing board as well. In the bathroom, you’ll find a hair dryer (a nice one :)), toilet paper and shower gel. Charming small private patio where you can start your day with a nice breakfast, have a glass of wine or just relax. The flat was fully decorated by me and my husband Ricky and we manage it ourserlves. We stay reachable during all your stay. :) The apartment is in an area that's full of history and truly represents the heart of traditional Lisbon. Stroll around its narrow streets to discover little cafes, restaurants, Fado houses, and trendy shops that make up this vibrant neighborhood. A stop for the 28 Tram is just 4min away and Santa Apolónia (metro and train station) and Terreiro do Paço (metro station) are both a 7 min walk from the house. The street is in a limited traffic zone - only taxis and residents can enter. If you wish to come by car, you can park at Largo Terreiro do Trigo, less then 100m from the building. Transfers between the airport and the apartment it’s as extra service - please let us know if are interested. A baby cot is available upon request - please let us know if you'll need it. The Popular Saints Festival is celebrated throughout June in Portugal. The festival in Lisbon is celebrated primarily on the 12th and 13th of June, in memory of Saint Anthony. Across Lisbon's historical neighborhoods you will see colorful decorations, food stalls and live stages to listen to music. As we are situated in the heart of Alfama, during the month of June, specially the 12th, more animation is expected in the streets that surround the apartment and the area will be much more crowded and noisy during this day.
