Walking Ancient Pathways
Join us as we explore ancient Native American trails, camps, and villages, and search for new, previously undiscovered sites. We will be hiking a mostly-level 3-5 mile trip, navigating the low altitude grasslands of the Sierra Nevada foothills near Cool, California. The trip leader will discuss the history and natural world of this area, sharing his knowledge of the local Native Americans, as well as the flora, fauna, and geology of the area. Our trip will also explore new areas, if desired, in search for previously unknown, undocumented cultural resources. Any new sites will be passed along to the North Central Information Center for historical preservation. This is your chance to find history! After the hike, participants will receive a detailed map and photos, if desired, from the trip. This is a kid-friendly, dog-friendly walk, so plan on taking your time! Other things to note This is a hike in the mountains, so plan accordingly. We will be hiking off the trail, so be sure you're comfortable doing so. To stay on the trail is to limit yourself.

Tahoe Snowshoeing for families and beginners
On this beginner snowshoe adventure, we will be hiking with snowshoes, immersing ourselves in the forest on a homemade secluded winter trail. This activity is perfect for those wanting to explore outside this winter but not wanting to commit to a big hike. Starting, we gather our equipment, have a brief introduction, then hit the trail. We will spend the first half of our experience hiking up 200-500’ (depending on the group) in elevation at a relaxed and enjoyable pace. Up the mountain, we go through uninterrupted Tahoe National Forest. Guiding through the alpine scenery your guides will be sharing stories of the area, history, as well as local flora and fauna. Roughly halfway, we find peaceful open meadows covered in snow. As we explore, reflective light from snow crystals flicker with every step. We meander down the hill enjoying mountain vistas of the surrounding area and ski resorts of Palisades Tahoe. This hike is a perfect outing into the Sierra Nevada mountains. We return back to our vehicles finishing a loop trail. Due to the seclusion, seeing another person is highly unlikely. So step off the beaten path and allow us to show you a true mountain outing you won’t surely forget. This hike is considered a beginner in difficulty and best suited for kids 7 years and up

Magical Story Wine Tasting Experience in Amador
We are Story Winery, located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. Our winery consists of an 1865 former gold miner bunk/treehouse turned tasting room. It is surrounded by old and beautiful vineyards, planted in 1894, and the thing we are known for other than our award-winning wines, the awe-inspiring canyon views is something your heart will not easily forget. You are welcome to bring a picnic-style lunch and enjoy it with some of our award-winning wine. Other than our ancient/old vines, we also have been noted in various press releases such as Sacramento Magazine for utilizing the ancient UNESCO recognized Georgian Claypot (Qvevri) Method of winemaking used for 8,000 years in the Republic of Georgia where the owner originally hails from. On top of rare Georgian grape varietals, and high-quality local varietals being made in the Oldworld Qvevri method, Story features more than 20 other local varietals (many of them award winners) Amador is famous for, such as old-vine zinfandels, barbera, syrah, and much more! We can't wait to host you so come check out Story Winery and write your own magical story!

Create an Heirloom Toy From Reclaimed Cedar or Redwood
This activity will be tailored to your level of woodworking skills; from beginner to experienced. You will be reclaiming cedar or redwood to create an heirloom, movable, durable toy to enjoy or pass on to someone special. Some of these toys, that were made 30 years ago, are still being displayed by my nephews and nieces. The day will begin with 2-3 hours in the shop cutting, shaping and gluing parts for your chosen toy. To allow time for the glue to dry, you will have 1 hour of private time in the afternoon to: - hike on trails through the woods on our 30 acres - walk or drive down (1/3 mile) to the year-round creek to swim or simply commune with the natural forest here on our property - pick vegetables from our large, seasonal garden for a luncheon salad - simply relax in creekside hammocks or patio furniture - explore the wonderful historic and forested charm of Nevada County - use our hot tub overlooking our creek and wooded canyon The afternoon will involve 1-2 additional hours in the shop to complete your heirloom toy to take home and relish the accomplishment of having created an amazing product. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: When working around power tools it is highly recommended that you wear closed shoes and have no loose hanging jewelry or shirt sleeves that may get snagged in the machines.
Literary Secrets of Sacramento
We will meet up in the old City Cemetery and I’ll fill you in on some of the well known writers who have wandered through Sacramento literary history. We can either sit in the shade of the trees and I will regale you with stories, or we can tour in my car the various landmarks related to Raymond Carver, Ernest Hemingway, Joan Didion, and more. Whichever one is more comfortable for you is fine. You’ll see where Maya Angelou liked to relax with a glass of wine, where a 50s suburban housewife churned out lesbian romance novels (which now have a huge cult following)and where the love letters of JD Salinger were plagiarized. Sacramento has been the host of many a surprising literary occurrence...
